I just wrote a post for Shak & Jill about what’s weighing heavily on the minds of Tennessee bloggers. After having read most of the comments on Aunt B’s place and also Newscoma’s point of view, I just can’t disagree. It is a national tragedy on so many fronts that thousands and thousands and thousands of homes are being foreclosed on. I have worked with so many people who have faced heartbreak as their little American dream turns into a nightmare.
I will say this (and forgive me if I sound defensive). There are agents out there who would sell a million dollar home to someone who makes $5 p/hour if they could actually get a loan (I know this is an exaggeration but bear with me). They are most definitely in it for the money. Ivy commented on Music City Bloggers about how unscrupulous her agent was (and I told her that I was absolutely appalled at what he did and said) numerous times before these discussions were taking place. However, there ARE agents who do take heart in that the needs of our clients come before our own needs. This is why I am not a rich person. I can’t begin to tell you how many “deals” I’ve lost because of my honesty. Being honest, truthful, and ethical does not pay big, people. But at least I can look in the mirror every morning and know that I did the right thing. And maybe if more people were like that, we wouldn’t be seeing today’s foreclosure and short sales disasters.

Kathy,
This type of thing is exactly why I’m proud to know you and will probably use you if they carry me out of this home in some way other than a pine box. ;-p

Dear Kathy,
Thank you for this post. I believe that more Americans have to be honest in their work and that we will be better for it. When I buy a house in my area (Alabama) I hope to find and work with someone like you. I will pass this on to everyone I know looking at real estate.

Amen! That is what this business should be about–helping families(people) live the American dream and own their own home without fear of foreclosure. You are correct; when you do the right thing you can sleep peacefully at night. In my humble opinion, helping people is the most important and satisfying aspect of this business. Thanks for being a credit to the industry.
